On the air since January 2005, Independent Radio KWSS 93.9/99.5FM is a Non-Commercial LPFM terrestrial broadcast station serving Scottsdale, Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, and surrounding cities. 93.9 serves Phoenix and the west valley, and 99.5 serves Mesa and the east valley. You can also stream the station via the TuneIn app. KWSS serves the public through providing 18 hours per day of locally originated programming. We offer a diverse music format within the alternative indie rock genre.

KWSS is 100% independent, locally-owned and a 501(c)3 non-profit supporting the arts, entertainment, and small business community in Phoenix. Everyone involved with the station volunteers their time. We are the only independent station on the Phoenix FM dial to offer an alternative choice to the public of local and independent music and programming not often found in mainstream terrestrial radio. The station also offers a medium for local Arizona music, events, charities, concerts and public service announcements. We know how to rock local!

KWSS brings Feature Story News and information to its listeners, as well as several other independent radio programs such as Vibes Alive Radio. We are a major supporter of the local arts and are constantly featuring events to help bring awareness to the local community.  Our mission is to enrich your media experience by offering alternative independent programming (both music and news) with a focus on localism. How do I make a song request?

There are two ways:  Visit our home page and click on the KWSS Online Song Request link in the top menu.  It allows a listener to browse our library and make a request that goes into a cue to be aired within an hour.  You may also call or text 623-888-6091 for requests.  We will do our best to play your request in a timely manner!

How do I Submit Music for airplay?

Musicians may submit songs for radio play consideration. Please verify that lyrics are free from profanity and obscene content.  We ask that music is part of the KWSS format of independent, pop, alternative rock genres.  Please format music tracks as “Band Name – Song Title”. If your file is too large to email, please send link to download (Dropbox, Google, etc).  Send an email submissions@kwss.org. We will reply as soon as we can!

I’ve seen KWSS listed as a sponsor at concerts, events and festivals.   What does that mean?

KWSS is pleased to provide media support to many events, shows, concerts, festivals and other arts organizations. As media sponsor of an event, KWSS provides the organization with on-air mentions of their events, often in return for an advertisement in the playbill and tickets to the event.  Learn more by looking at our media kit: https://kwss.org/radio/media-kit/
